Blues To Avoid Drop With A Point Against Derby

The Championship enters the last week of action for the 2019/20 season, and Birmingham City and Derby County are set to provide another intense encounter on Wednesday at the St. Andrew's Trillion Trophy Stadium – here is all the key information you need to know ahead of kick-off.

Birmingham City have something huge on the line when they play a Derby County who have nothing but pride at stake.

The Blue’s will be playing for the future of the club as dropped points means relegation into League One is on the cards.

They currently find themselves dangerously close to the drop zone with only two points being the difference between them and relegation candidates Luton Town and Charlton Athletic.

City have also received bittersweet news this week as highly rated prospect Jude Bellingham has left the club to join Borussia Dortmund, despite losing the young talent it will be a proud moment for the Blues fans to see one of their own performing on the world stage.

Derby County have failed to reach the heights they set for themselves last season as no playoffs will mean they will spend another season in England’s second flight.

The Rams find themselves 12th in the league, nine points off a playoff spot and will therefore only have their pride to play for on Wednesday evening.

Phillip Cocu’s side were taken apart by champions Leeds United in their last outing despite leading the game 1-0 in the second half.

A goal from Chris Martin seemed to kick the soon to be Premier League side into gear as they netted three times within 30 minutes to earn themselves another three points on the road.

With goal difference heavily falling in City’s favour, a point is more than likely to ensure they remain a Championship outfit.

A lack of motivation for Derby with nothing on the line could result in a rotated squad as well as being overwhelmed by a City side who will be desperate to grind out a much-needed result at home.
